Attended dental school in Argentina, where he specialized in pediatric and adult orthodontics as well as dentofacial orthopedics between 1991 and 1993. Following that, he did several residencies in Chile and the U.S., completed a two-year continuing education course at the Roth-Williams Center in Santiago, Chile, and obtained a Diploma in Orthodontics and Orthognathic Surgery from Arnett Gunson Facial Reconstruction Courses Inc. in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Larriu is an active member of the Sociedad Española de Ortodoncia (SEDO) and has been a collaborating professor of the Master’s Degree in Orthodontics program at the Faculty of Dental Medicine of the University of Porto since 2013. He has also lectured in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Portugal and Spain, has written more than twenty scientific journal articles, and was the recipient of the Gaceta Dental Award for the best clinical article (Segmental Maxillary Surgery) in 2004. Since 1991, Dr. Larriu has been in his own private practice in Pamplona, Spain, and he is widely recognized for the use of the passive self-ligation bracket system.
